❤ iview

I thought I had escaped the dreaded lurgy this winter but it has hit me.
I'm tucked up in bed with my iview catching up on Call the Midwife.  I love it - newly qualified midwife Jenny Lee (Jessica Raine) arrives in the East End of London to work from Nonnatus House helping the local women safely deliver their babies into the world. We get to see post war London of the 1950's with stories based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth. The familiar voice of the older Jenny lends such a wise  tone to the stories. I was wondering aloud whose voice it was and my sister told me it is Vanessa Redgrave. 10/10 to you M!

I might have to read the book now.

The series does not hold back from the gritty scenes of childbirth in poverty and extreme hardship - no running water, clean linen or pain relief.
The characters range from the dotty nun to the endearing but clumsy Nurse Chumley telling stories of real women with humour and pathos.
If you haven't seen it yet you can catch up here . Thank you ABC.
